Tom Low, a master-degreed architect from the University of Miami in suburb and town design. During the fall of 1991 he received a scholarship to attend the Urban Design Program at the University of Naples, Italy and underwent extensive study of the architecture and urban design of this historical city and region. Since that time, Tom has managed and completed over 84 projects with the firm. In 1995, Tom opened the Charlotte, North Carolina office of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co. and is actively involved with projects, research, and education within the region. Tom lectures on town planning and has taught at the University of Miami School of Architecture, and has been visiting professor at the University of North Carolina Charlotte School of Architecture, the College of Charleston, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Through grants he received through the John Nolen Foundation he is currently planning a symposium of John Nolen's work in the southeast and is currently working on a book on John Nolen's planning techniques.

DPZ has received numerous awards including two State of Florida Governor's Urban Design Awards for Excellence. The firm's early project of the town of Seaside, Florida is the States first new town development since World War II. Time Magazine featured Seaside as one of the "Best of the Decade". The firm has been featured in other national media such as NEC News and ABC News, as well as many publications including: Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Washington Post and major professional magazines.
